Escape the Room - Episode 2: Lost in Space

                               Episode 2: "Lost in Space"

 

The Team awakes in a large hexagonal room filled with futuristic objects. As they stand they are hit by a blanket of thick grey smog. Obnoxious gasses fill the air, Alarm bells ring and red lights flash an ominous glow. Directly in the centre of the room lies a control desk with a central computer. The computer screen also flashes red with warning symbols and the words "Please enter password"

 The Taskmaster's voice can suddenly be overheard on the PA system:

Taskmaster: "Youz may now Escape the Room!"

The team spreads out and begins to explore...

*The computer PA system announces the following: "Space Station Omega currently in Lock-Down phase 1, Access to secondary rooms restricted. Incoming meteor shower in quadrant E-17, Deflector shield currently: offline. Radiation levels: Rising. Core temperature: reaching critical levels. Air purity: 55%. Toxic gas detected in console room. Crew status: Deceased"

 

Monty: Wow! What place is this? 

Laurel: "Ugh. Red. Sooo not my colour. Blegh. Just blegh. Get it out of my face. Now."  

Laurel: "Hmm, desk, drawers, couch, dumb creepy dead peeps, couche- OOOOOOooooh, stereo!  This might be fun, hoopla!" 

Hélene: "This is not fun. Seriously, can someone please turn off that ghastly alarm???"

Laurel: "Pffft, the red is more plumming me off, siryessir."

Hélene: "We'll definitely have a talk on the palette theory next time, Miss Lime. But right now we need to find get out of this atrocious room before we get permanent damage to our tympanic membranes!"

*The computer PA system announces an important message:"Warning!: Reactor breach in section B-2, Urgent repairs needed!" *

 Ben: "Chillax guys, I've done ten of these before. I'm not good at them, but I have experience."

 Monty: "I never did this in my entire life... So? What are we doing....?"

Laurel: "It's easy, I'll show you"

*Laurel rips open the desk drawer*

 Laurel: "Just mess up the place and look for those key things"

Hélene: "How about we turn off the freaking alarm first"

Anita: "That plum awful noise is giving me a migraine, It's worse than 10 children having a temper tantrum. What I wouldn't give to be able to put my feet up and have a nice glass of wine right now."

*Anita sits on the couch and rubs her forehead, trying to soothe her headache*

Monty : *picking up a skeleton* "Hey mister Bones... You can't lie on the floor.. You will catch a cold.. *The skeleton is wearing a metal bracelet* Hey! Whats this?"

Ben: "Looks like some sort of bracelet or something, What does that writing on it say?"

 

Monty: "Pog... Level 1 access..."

Ben: What is a pog? Is it some kind of alien?

 

Anita: I thought pogs was a craze all the kids had in the 90's. *Laughs*

Hélene: "I'm going to check this bookcase, Can someone give me a hand?"

David: "I'll help. You start at the top, I'll check the bottom"

*David and Hélene begin taking books off the shelf and reading them aloud*

David: Whats this? *He pulls out a large red book that says: "Captain's Log" on the cover* Captain's log? This has to be important..."

Hélene: Give it to me! *She grabs the book from David and opens it* What? It's hollow... *The book is hollow in the centre and inside hides a bottle of unidentified liquid*

David: The label says Captain's contraband, Hmm...  Looks like alcohol *He picks up the bottle and opens the lid* Smells like it too...

Hélene: Hmm, Interesting... *She takes the bottle*

*While searching the desk drawers Laurel pulls too hard on one of the drawers and it slides out violently, As it opens 3 file folders fall onto the floor. (A Red, Blue and Green file)*

Laurel: "Sheesus Kraist, not even my colour?" *Laurel goes through the contents of the green file folder and reads it aloud* Galactic Herbology for Beginners... Snoot vines... Prickly pears... Space slugs... Ooh! This looks interesting, Umboga fruit... Deadly to humans, Can only be eaten by glorps.

*The computer PA system announces an important message: "Warning!: Research Lab currently in Lock-Down. Level 1-5 access required.*

Ben: "Huh? Look over here, there is a telescope, maybe it leads to a hint." *Ben looks through the telescope, He sees a beautiful meteor shower but nothing much else* "Well that was disappointing, Oh wait" *Noticing a post-it note on the side of the telescope*"

"Ah, ein Klebzettel. Oh, pardon, forgot that most of the audience doesn't speak German, haha" *He reads aloud to the team* "To Sgt. Mike, please stop using the Multipurpose reactor sealant to fix the holes in your moon boots!"

Anita: Moon boots! Hah! I had a pair of them when i was little, They were from the 80's! For the future there is certainly alot of retro references.

Ben: "More importantly, What the hölle is a reactor sealant spray? This information is just lächerlich!" 

Anita: "Alright lovelies! Go do what Fred from Scooby Doo says, and split up and look for clues! I'm gunna check out this couch a little longer"

Laurel: "That's exactly what we're doing already, gramps. Anyway, this schijt is weeeiiiird. Alien herbology, who would've thunk it?"

Anita: "Okay, I'm going to check out this computer. Being a receptionist, I have alot of experience in the IT department" *She looks at the computer screen* "Oh dearies, It seems we need a password for this PC, Keep on the lookout team!"

*She tries the password: 12345*

 *The computer PA system responds with: "Error 404, Page not found"

Anita: "Well it was worth a shot, Guess the people who lived here were pretty smart"

*She sits back on the couch defeated but this time it feels rather uncomfortable, As if she is sat on something*

"I'm sure this couch wasn't this lumpy a minute ago" *She checks under the cushions to see what is causing the discomfort* Oh! Lookie here my little nose miners! I found another bracelet! This one belongs to the Captain"

David: "Well done Mama Nita, Guess sitting down on the job has its uses *laughs*"

Anita: "What can i say sweetpea? I have hidden talents, Ha!"

David: "I'm gunna take a walk over to that stereo system, It looks like it could be useful..."

*Laurel interrupts*

Laurel: "Did you say Stereo?! Woot! Time to party!"

David: "Dont get too excited, There is no disk inserted"

Laurel: "..... Lame. Laaaaaaame. It sucks to stay at the L-A-M-E." *on the melody of YMCA, Laurel gestures the letters L, A, M and E.*

 

David: "How about some space age music? This stuff looks funky" *He plays one of the disks from the CD rack*

*David and Laurel dance to the music as Hélene inspects the Cow plant on the writing desk*

Hélene: "Well, this is some exotic taste for pottery. I prefer more traditional art myself, Not this new age rubbish"

Monty: "Whats this?" *Picking up the canister on the table* "This must be that Reactor Sealant Ben mentioned earlier"

Hélene: "Look, there's a note inside this Cow plant's mouth" *She opens it up and reads it* "It's the computer password ladies and gentlemen, The password is Earth!" *She hands it to Anita who types it into the computer*

Anita: "Yes! We're in... I've always wanted to say that! I feel like one of those computer hackers. Hmm, right, looks like we got a Map of this place. To the left we have a Research lab, To the right we have a Reactor core and straight ahead we have an Alien containment bay. We also got some other options on the PC as well, It says: Open floor safe and View Corrupted File"

Ben: "I'm going to take a look at the other two files" *He quickly flicks through them* "Okay meine freunde, We have Reactor repair for dummies which says to spray that Reactor sealant on the Reactor and Dr. Nova's Research notes which says to feed the Glorp in the containment bay"

David: "I say we open the Floor Safe, There has got to be something in there that is of use to us. I know that is where they hide the goods in most action films"

*Anita clicks on Open Floor Safe and the whole room begins to shake, Suddenly a metal safe rises from beneath one of the floor tiles. It opens to reveal another Bracelet, A scrap of paper and the Team's first Room Key!*

David: "OMG! Guys, look! A key! Woohoo!"

Laurel: Woot!

Ben: Wunderbar!

Anita: Fan-Bloody-Tastic dearies!

Hélene: Smashing stuff Team.

Monty: "Yay! *Monty picks up the Key and the Bracelet* Now we have three Bracelets, I think i know what they are for. We have to use them to access the three other rooms"

Laurel: "Well, It looks like you guys know what you are doing, I'm going to put my swimsuit on cuz why not? It's hot in here" *Laurel undresses and puts on her swimsuit while humming "It's getting hot in here, So take off all your clothes"*

David: "Woah! This escape room just got a whole lot more interesting..."

Ben: *Ben covers his eyes in shock and points to Laurel*

Monty: "Hey... We got teens here... Put back on that clothes... My Grandad will not be pleased if he finds out about this..."

Anita: "My poor baby! Shield your eyes! *Anita covers Monty's eyes* Miss Lime, Think of the children!"

*Hélene rolls her eyes to show her disapproval of Laurel's behaviour, In response Laurel makes an inappropriate gesture to Hélene*

Ben: "Guys, guys! Calm down! We need to work together on this. Laurel is only trying to get comfortable, We are all mature here"

Anita: *Talking to Monty* Yes deary, There is no need for such drastic measures. Any issue can be resolved peacefully. 

Ben: "Now then, We have one key. What's next on the list?"

David: "Feed the Glorp and fix the reactor i think, I still have no idea what a Glorp is"

Hélene: "The Glorps? Wait, I remember seeing it from one of the files before. Yes, apparently 'Glorps' are natives to this Glorp planet. Why can't they name themselves after something that doesn't sound like vomit?"

David: "Well according to the Computer, The Glorp is in the Containment bay"

Hélene: "Containment bay, I wonder where it is..."

David: "First of all, Didn't one of the things here say something about spraying some stuff to fix the reactor? We might need to get on that straight away if we don't want to get a case of the deaths"

All: "Agreed"

Laurel: "Hélene ze man, You remember that bottle of drink from the Captain's log right? Gimme!" 

Hélene: "Sure, knock yourself out"

*Laurel chugs the bottle of drink and hiccups as Monty uses one of the Bracelets to enter the Reactor core*

Laurel: "I daubt thad'll wo*hiccup* woork. " 

*Monty holds the Bracelet up to the Reactor Core doors keypad, As he does it makes a beeping sound and links up to the door panel. The Computer PA system announces: Access Granted*

Laurel: "Well watdoya know? It doz wurk! Bud annieway, we need to fiks da reac*hiccup*- reactar and feed da Glawrp.. and we need *hiccup* dat reactar spray for dat."

Hélene: "Laurel, tell me, what does that drink taste like?"

*Laurel burbs out loud in Hélene's face*

 Monty: "She smells like she been... Eeuwe.. It smells like the stuff my grandpa used for cleaning his pipe.... "

 Laurel: "Boore off! BOOOOOO!!!!"

 *Monty ignores Laurel, goes over to the reactor and seals the crack with the Reactor Sealant. Once the crack is sealed the toxic gas disperses and the Second Exit Key is revealed hidden inside the Reactors central column*

Monty: "There you go..." *Monty collects the second key*

Hélene: "Oh, another key! Good job lad." *The Team celebrates*

Anita: "I suggest for the next key we split up into two groups and cover more ground, I'm gunna go search the Alien Containment with Monty and Laurel. Ben, You, David and Hélene go search the Lab"

Laurel: "Last person there is a rotten eggplant!"*Laurel pushes past Monty*

Monty: "Rude!"

Laurel: "Rewls are rewd."

*Monty chases after Laurel and trys to trip her up, Laurel fights back by kicking Monty in the groin*

Laurel: "Taeke dat, gurl!!"

Monty: "I'm not a girl... " *Monty looks upset*

Laurel: "I daubt you'll evarrr have bab*hiccup* babbies aftur dat kick in ye Klockenspiell!" 

Anita: "Guys and girls, stop fighting! Don't make me go full Mama Nita on yer butts! We are a team and we should act like one! We need to work together to escape and conflict will not solve anything. So lets all just take a moment to relax ourselves, and then continue on our path of teamwork, okay? And if you start again Laurel, I'll sit you on the naughty step"

*After using one of the bracelets to access the Lab Ben, David and Hélene search around for clues. David checks the fridges, Hélene searches the chemistry station and Ben inspects the Kitchen area*

David: "Okay dudes, Got some more bottles of the Captain's beer and a half eaten Tuna sandwich in the left fridge, Got some vials of blood and some jars of chemicals in the right fridge and the middle one is locked. It got this strange keypad with like 9 different warning symbols on it, We got High Voltage, Radiation, Skull and Crossbones...  Has some of the same symbols that the scrap of paper in the safe had"

Ben: "I have a stove, With a defrosted chicken in it. A drawer full of spoons and a Microwave with another post-it note on it. It says Cranking the voltage is not the answer, I got another post-it on the stove that says Do not press any of the Odd numbers and one on the wall that says I do not trust the Jolly Rodger"

Hélene: "Nothing much here except some more chemical bottles and a brain in a jar, We have a periodic table on the wall though that is covered in these hideous red scribbles, It clashes with the decor worse than Laurels outfit. The scribbles all say Ra is key and the periodic element Radium is circled multiple times"

David: *Taking another look at the fridge* "Well if we think that the alien fruit is in the fridge, And the file said that the fruit was highly toxic, then that mean's the answer must be the toxic symbol, Which is the skull and crossbones" *He presses button number 2 on the console*

*The Computer PA system loudly announces: "Access Denied! 2 attempts remaining before lock-out"*

David:  "Plum! That's not it... Sorry guys"

*Meanwhile Anita, Laurel and Monty use the last remaining bracelet to enter the Alien Containment. As the alien containment doors slide open, The Computer PA system announces loudly: Warning: Alien containment breach!*

Inside the room, There is very little to explore. In the centre of the room is an opened containment unit where a small unidentified alien creature sits inside. As they approach the creature it humorously proclaims: "Glooble Glorp!*

Laurel: "Awwwww, look how cyuut he is, He is so adorbablep... But where's the fewd?" *Talking to the Glorp* "Glooble Glorp?"

Florp the Glorp: *The Glorp looks offended, It replies again but this time louder: Glooble Glorp!*

Anita: *to the Glorp* Awww! Look how cute he is. Cute as a button. Reminds me of Taiha's cat, Mr Meow. What a cutie!

Laurel: "Hmm, would it understand English?" *Laurel talks to the Glorp:* "Hello little buddy"

Florp the Glorp: "Grooble Flooble Glorpa!"

Monty: "What is he saying?"

Anita: "Hold on this should help..." *Picking up a handbook of easy to learn Glorponian phrases from the bookshelf and flicking through it* "Looks like the little guy is hungry"

Monty: *go again through the green file* "Okay we need to look for this plant for Glorp ... Umboga Fruit" *Talking to the Glorp* "Do you know where we can find your food? This Umbogu Fruit"

Florp the Glorp: "In dah Shooby Glooble!"

Laurel: "Ehhh... me thinks ye got dis covv*hiccup* covvewwr*hiccup* COVvewred.. Is dere more of dat stuf*hiccup* I drank?"

Anita: *to Laurel* "Miss Lemon-Lime, I believe you've had enough. Perhaps you can put your lovely energy into finding our new friend here some food, If you drink anymore you will start talking in a alien language! *looking through the Glorponian handbook* "Looks like he's telling us that the fruit is in the Ice box, I'm assuming that is the fridge"

*Back in the Lab*

David: "I'm seriously tempted to eat that Tuna sandwich in that one fridge. Gotta maintain my caloric intake to avoid losing too much muscle *He flexes his muscles*"

Hélene: "Good heavens"

Ben: "Hmm..." *Studying the Fridge door panel*  "Fire could be a good choice because you use fire in a lab to heat chemicals?" *He presses number 8 on the keypad*

*The Computer PA system loudly announces: "Access Denied! 1 attempt remaining before lock-out"*

Ben: "Scheisse! Sorry, I really thought i had that then"

Hélene: *Looking at the scrap of paper from the Floor Safe* "I have it! Ra stands for element Radium which is a radioactive metal and the Radioactive symbol is a different colour on this scrap of paper, That has got to be it!" *She runs up to the fridge and presses 4 on the keypad*

*The Computer PA system loudly announces: "Access Granted! Welcome Dr. Nova"*

Ben: "Awesome work Hélene!"

David: "Yeah, Good job"

Hélene: "No need to thank me boys" *She searches about the fridge and finds a food container that contains the Umboga Fruit* "Got it! Let's get this stuff over to the guys in the Alien room"

*In the Alien Containment*

*Hélene, David and Ben rush in and hand Monty the Umboga fruit*

Hélene: "Here, Give that thing the food and lets get out of here"

*Monty feeds the Glorp and moments later the Glorp hands Monty the Third and final Exit Key*

Monty: "YES!!! We did it!! Woot woot!!"

Laurel: "TOOOT TOOOOOOOT!!!"

David: "Aces! Nice work, everyone! I'm so glad we didn't die out here"

*The Team celebrates and makes there way to the Exit Door, They turn all three keys in the door and the Door slides open allowing them to leave the room. As they leave the room they are met by the Taskmaster who has been waiting patiently outside"

Taskmaster: "Congratulations team onz ezcaping ze first of my develishly difficult puzzle vrooms, I muzt say I am both equally shocked and proud of your efforts. You have zuprised me with your ability to zee the bigger picture and think outzide ze box. Well done"

*He phones Janet on his cellphone*


"Janet! We needz to make ze vrooms harder! Ze solved zat one far too quickly and none of zem perished! I am zo disappointed that no onez got riddled with radiation... "

 
David: Aww, Don't worry dude. I'm sure someone will come across some harm in the next room. *laughs*

Taskmaster: "I certainly hopez zo... Otherwise zis iz going to be extremley boring for me! I don't want to zee you guys winning, I want to zee you lose, I want to zee you fighting, I want to zee you guys tearing eachotherz apart az your brainz implode from ze sheer complexity of ze puzzles I set before youz! *Evil Laugh*

Ben: "Not gunna happen, we are too smart for this game"

Taskmaster: "Yes, vell...  Anywayz, Allow me to introduce you to my good friend and the voice-actor for the Computer PA system...  Fungi!"

Fungi: "Yo dudes and dudettes! Waz up? Groovy game you are all playing, Right?"

Hélene: "Not exactly, This has to be one of the worst experiences of my life"

Fungi: "But you guys were totes awesome! You cool cats solved that room way quicker than I ever could have"

Laurel: " Yeah, This room was too easy, Who comes up with this shizzle?"

Taskmaster: "Do youz mind? Me and Janet were up all night putting zis room together! It took us 6 hours just to putz ze flooring down and put ze walls up! These flat-pack escape rooms do not put themselves together you know?!"

Fungi: "Anyway, I gotta skedaddle. Leif is expecting me at the airport, His flight from Alaska is due to land soon. Later dudes!"

Taskmaster: "Okay, Everyonez back in ze car! Dinner is vaiting for uz back at Headquarters..."
